2011 GREEN Yards and the Mow-Hi Pledge
McLaurins Win The Mow-Hi Pledge!
Winners of Mow-Hi Pledge
Walter and Tammy McLaurin won a Black & Decker Electric Rechargeable Mower in 2011 for successfully completing the Mow-Hi Pledge.
They were one of 61 households in Maplewood and North St. Paul who took the Mow-Hi Pledge to:
    • Raise their mower heights to 3 inches for water savings.
    • Let clippings fall on the lawn for fertilizer savings.

Residents who took the Mow-Hi Pledge by July 1st, 2011 were entered into
the Mow-Hi Pledge Grand Prize Drawing for a Black & Decker Electric Rechargeable Mulching Walk-Behind Mower donated by The Friends of Maplewood Nature and Home Depot.

Random checks of lawn heights were conducted by city staff during summer 2011 of those households pledged to the program to ensure eligibility for the grand prize.

Why Take the Mow-Hi Pledge?
When you raise your mower’s height to 3 inches and time your cuts (so that no more than 1/3 of the green blades are cut at any time), your lawn will be healthier and more drought resistant. Mowing high also saves on water and fertilizer. Because mowing high also means you mow less frequently, you save on time and gas, with the added benefit of reducing carbon emissions.
