From formal to wild, from shrubs to perennials, there are many options for rain garden plant designs.

Maplewood has created 10 designs for home rain gardens in our area (Zone 4). These are appropriate for small gardens from around 8’x16’ to 12’x24’.

These designs have a wet zone in the center of garden and an upland zone around the edges. So the plants in the center are the most water tolerant.  Keep this in mind as you take ideas from these and create your own design.
