Seeing wildlife in the neighborhood is exciting and the city promotes enhancing habitat for wildlife. But without natural predators, deer populations have increased tremendously in some Maplewood neighborhoods.
Over population of deer can affect the health of a deer herd, impact public safety (via deer-vehicle collisions), and can adversely affect vegetation.
Maplewood ordinance prohibits feeding deer and prohibits providing salt for deer.
Ramsey County has a deer removal program which the City of Maplewood supports. The county partners with Metro Bowhunters Resource Base (MBRB) for removal of deer on several county sites. Maplewood partners with MBRB for removal of deer at Priory Neighborhood Preserve.
