Saint Paul Regional Water Services provides water service to the vast majority of properties in Maplewood. They inspect and maintain the distribution infrastructure and storage facilities. SPRWS also is responsible for water quality, metering, and billing.

A small area in the northeast section of Maplewood has its water supplied by the City of North Saint Paul (651) 770-4450.

Other small areas of the city are served by the City of Roseville, City of Little Canada and the City of Woodbury.

The Maplewood Utility Department does paint the fire hydrants in Maplewood. Hydrants in a particular area, usually 30 to 40 structures, are first sanded and primed. Then they are spray-painted either a safety-yellow or a combination of red and yellow.

The red/yellow hydrants have a St. Paul thread and are an indication to the fire department that an adaptor is needed in order to attach a fire hose. The yellow hydrant has a universal thread and the fire hose can be attached directly to the hydrant.
