Water & Sewer Billing & Connections
Overview
The City of Maplewood does not have its own water utility. St. Paul Regional Water Services (SPRWS) provides water service to the majority of Maplewood residential and commercial properties.

The City of North St. Paul provides water for Maplewood residents in the northeast corner of Maplewood, east of White Bear Avenue and north of Radatz Avenue, and near North St. Paul’s southern border on Holloway Avenue.

The cities of Roseville, Little Canada and Woodbury also supply water to commercial enterprises located on border streets.

To determine who provides your water, call Maplewood Public Works at (651) 249-2400.

SPRWS
SPRWS (formerly known as the St. Paul Water Utility) has owned the water distribution system infrastructure in Maplewood since 1997, when Maplewood became a member of the Board of Water Commissioners.

This permanent partnership also initiated the billing of Maplewood sanitary sewer charges by SPRWS based on water usage. Prior to July 1997, sanitary sewer was billed quarterly by Maplewood on a flat-rate basis.

Since 1997, SPRWS has been billing residential properties for sanitary sewer on the volume of water consumed, which is based on water usage during the winter quarter. Consequently, homeowners are not charged sewer fees for water used on lawn and garden care during the summer months.

Winter quarter water consumption is an equitable basis for sanitary sewer charges for the entire year as it is based on the assumption that all the water entering your home in the winter will ultimately go into the sanitary sewer system.

July 1997 Effective Bill
Effective July 1997, the cities of North St. Paul, Woodbury, Roseville and Little Canada also agreed to bill Maplewood properties for sanitary sewer usage based on winter quarter water consumption. North St. Paul bills all utilities on a monthly basis, while Woodbury, Roseville and Little Canada bill on a quarterly calendar basis.

All commercial properties are billed by SPRWS on a monthly basis and the winter quarter basis does not apply to commercial sewer bills.

For those commercial properties that use a deduct meter to measure lawn irrigation water usage, call Bill Priefer in Maplewood Public Works at (651) 249-2406 to arrange for sanitary sewer credits.

Permits and inspections by these cities are required for new water installations.
