Natural Resources Plan
In 2008 Maplewood developed a natural resources plan for the City as part of the City Comprehensive Plan. The plan suggests strategies to protect, connect, restore, and manage ecosystems, plant communities, and species.

The plan advocates focusing on large natural corridors, individual sites, and natural resources issues.

Natural Area Greenways
Maplewood has identified four natural area greenways in our community. These are large contiguous areas of habitat that cross ownership boundaries. They protect and expand ecosystem services and habitat. Because they are large, they have the potential to provide habitat for both generalist and specialist species. These greenways encompass both public and private lands.  Click here to view the Natural Area Greenways map.

Local Habitats
There are many small natural areas in Maplewood. These have been categorized as Local Habitats - individual natural areas and backyard habitat connections. They serve the needs of people wanting to enjoy and learn about wild habitat near their homes and also provide ecosystem services and wildlife habitat locally. Local habitats may be public or private lands.

Natural Resources Issues
Some natural resources issues are addressed city-wide through programs such as: stormwater management, invasive species, trees, wetlands, wildlife, etc.
