The Maplewood area has a rich and interesting history – from the railroad shops at Gladstone to the farms along Carver, to the post-war housing boom. For the past nine months, historians from Thomas Zahn and Associates have been conducting a historic context study for the city. This type of study organizes history based on cultural themes.
The Heritage Preservation Commission invites the community to attend the consultants’ presentation of their work at a City Council workshop: Monday, September 8, 2014, 5:00 p.m., at Maplewood City Hall. The presentation will highlight several aspects of Maplewood history and provide recommendations for preservation of historic resources. If you have an older home or are interested in history, don’t miss this opportunity.
The historic context study is funded by a grant from the State of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society. For questions, contact Ginny Gaynor, 651-249-2416.
