WAKEFIELD PARK GETS A NEW FISHING PIER AND PICNIC SHELTER

The dedication ceremony for the new fishing pier and picnic shelter was held at Wakefield Park, (1590 Frost Avenue) on July 13th.  The purpose of this event was to thank the DNR and the Darkhouse & Angling Association for their generous donations and support of the fishing pier and to officially open the picnic shelter to the public.  MinnAqua, a division of the DNR, started the evening out with Naturalist Zoa leading a Learn to Fish program for kids.  Mayor Rossbach kicked off the event by presenting the Darkhouse & Angling Association with a plaque of recognition and doing the ceremonial "first cast" off of the new pier.  The event concluded with cake and root beer floats under the new picnic shelter.  A special thank you goes out to members of the DNR, Darkhouse & Angling Association, City Council and our Maplewood Day Camp families for helping us celebrate these great new additions to Wakefield Park.  For more information, or to reserve the picnic shelter call 651-249-2007.
