The Martial Arts Classes are taught by instructors from The Edge Martial Arts studio, based out of Stillwater, MN. This premier karate studio was founded to promote and practice a hybrid style of martial arts that combines both competition and self-defense. Your child will learn the skills they need to be successful in life and learning; exercise, discipline, respect, team work and problem solving to name a few. 

Class registration is for a calendar month meeting Monday nights at the times specified below.

*Participation requires the purchase of a uniform, available for $30 on the first day of class through Edge Martial Arts.*

  • Little Dragons (4-6 year olds): 5:15-5:45 p.m.
  • Beginner (7+ yr old): 5:45-6:30 p.m.
  • Advanced Beginner (Gold belt and higher): 6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Day: Mondays - Register Monthly

Our Instructor

Master Michael Schafer, 5th Degree Black Belt - State Champion

Master Schafer took his first karate lesson in 1982 through a Shotokan program at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. He tried several other programs throughout the years until beginning his continuous training with National Karate in 1992. He achieved his 1st Degree Black Belt in June of 1995, and began teaching shortly thereafter. He was promoted to 2nd Degree Black Belt in September, 1997. In 2003 he joined Master Thorn at The Edge Martial Arts, and was promoted to 3rd Degree Black Belt in December of that year. On July 21st of 2013 Master Schafer was promoted to the level of 5th Degree Black Belt under Master Thorn and is certified by the World Martial Arts Ranking Association.

Master Schafer has competed at all belt levels, and has placed 1st through 4th numerous times in sparring, weapons, and forms. In 2010, Schafer won the Men's Black Belt Forms Grand Championship at the Central States Karate Championship.
